WHAT IN THE WORLD IS ORANGEBURG PIPE?
Also known as fiber conduit, bituminous fiber pipe or Bermico, Orangeburg pipe became popular for plumbing use during World War II to save steel for the war effort.
Made from compressed wood pulp fibers bound by a water-resistant adhesive and saturated with hot pitch, the pipe lost its popularity in the 1970s. Orangeburg pipe is known for absorbing moisture over time, causing the pipe to become distorted or start bubbling or blistering between layers.
If your home was built between 1945 and 1972, and your experiencing frequent plumbing issues, Orangeburg pipe may be the culprit. With a simple video inspection, Omni Eye can tell you exactly what type of pipe you are relying on, and what is causing the issues.
